Huntington North's Karmen Koch named IHSAA Cato Scholar

INDIANAPOLIS - Huntington North High School Karmen Koch has been honored by the Indiana High School Athletic Association for her work on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Koch is one of 13 Indiana seniors selected for the C. Eugene Cato Memorial Scholarship Awards. Koch and the other seniors will receive a $2,500 scholarship for excellence in athletics, academics, school and community involvement, character, sportsmanship and citizenship.

Koch played soccer, basketball, and runs track at Huntington North, where she served as a captain for each team. She was All-Northeast 8 Conference and 3rd team All-State in soccer and All-Conference and All-District in girls basketball. In track, she is the reigning NE8 champion in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and high jump. She set the conference record in the 300-meter hurdles as a sophomore. Her 4.2 grade point average, she ranks 3rd in the Vikings’ Class of 2018 and was named Academic All-State in girls soccer. Koch also serves as president of the Student Athletic Board, treasurer for the National Honor Society and member of class council. She has traveled to Ohio and Honduras for numerous volunteer opportunities. 

Koch plans to attend Butler University and study pharmacy.

Koch and the other Cato Scholars will be honored April 19 in Indianapolis. Huntington North is one of 25 regional high schools that partners with Parkview Sports Medicine for athletic training and other medial services for student-athletes.
