Pro Football Mini Camp Coach's Clinic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Jason Baker's Pro Football Mini Camp has seen the growth and experience of making a real difference in Northeast Indiana.

The camp, which will be Saturday May 19 and 20 at Wayne High School--Baker's alma mater--combines the game of football with giving back to the community through a service project.

The servant leadership project for the 11th annual camp will be at the the Public Safety Academy: Ivy Tech South Campus, where the campers will learn more about law enforcement at the local, state and federal level. The Saturday of community service grants kids in grades 6 through 8 free admission to the camp on Sunday. The camp concludes with a flag football tournament on.

Leading up to the camp, Baker held a clinic for youth sports coaches on in April. This year’s clinic focused on cyber security. An FBI official spoke about safety on the internet, social media and growing law enforcement concerns in use of technology by children. Connie Kerrigan, RN, BSN, director of of outreach for Parkview Behavioral Health, talked about the effects of cyber bullying plays on kids, and how adults can be aware of the the signs of mental health issues. Parkview Sports Medicine was proud to be a sponsor of the clinic.

"We always go after topics that are real and relevant,” Baker says. “We wanted to be a sustainable public resource that can provide tools for our coaches to continually have professional development.”

Baker’s former teammate John Kasey served as the feature speaker of the clinic. Kasey, who spent 21 seasons in the NFL, now serves on the board of directors for Coaches Time Out, a faith-based organization that teaches coaches to be mentors and role models for young athletes. Additionally, members of the Purdue football coaching staff held breakout sessions for the local coaches.

Registration for the Jason Baker Pro Football Mini Camp is open through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, May 17; and is available at ProFootballMiniCamp.com.
