FORT WAYNE - South Side girls clinched their first Parkview Sports Medicine SAC Holiday Tournament championship in four years Saturday, beating Carroll, 83-74, in the title game.
Senior Taniece Chapman led the Lady Archers with 28 points, finishing the tournament with 22.3 points per game. Senior Shamari Tyson added 22 points in the final.
South Side lead 25-17 after 1 quarter, but Carroll clawed back to cut the halftime deficit to 2 (40-38 South Side). South Side opened it back up in the 3rd quarter, and held on through small runs the Chargers had late in the game.
Senior Laney Steckler paced Carroll with 22 points, and senior Kelli Damman added 14. The Chargers finish as runners up for the second-straight year.
The last time South Side girls won the Parkview Sports Medicine SAC Holiday Tournament was 2013, when the Archers capped off a 3-year championship run.
Now 15-0, South Side continues its best start in school history into the latter half of the SAC slate and into the postseason.
