FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Two accomplished Northrop track & field seniors will continue their careers in the Big Ten Conference.
Jalen Royal signed with Indiana University men’s track & field while Alicia Tiney-Williams signed with Purdue women’s track & field during a ceremony Thursday at Northrop’s Bruin room.
Royal is a middle distance runner, specializing in the 400-meter run, the 800-meter run, the 1600-meter relay and the 3200-meter relay. He is a Summit Athletic Conference champion, sectional champion, regional champion and All-State selection in all three events. He has also earned some high school All-America honors through USA Track & Field national meets. Royal plans to study criminology, and hopes to one day become a police officer.
Tiney-Williams will throw shotput and discuss at Purdue University. She has won back-to-back SAC, sectional and regional titles in the shotput; and she has won a conference crown in the discuss, too. She is a 2-time All-State selection in shotput, and won the Hoosier State Relays indoor state championship in shotput as a junior. She holds the Northrop record (47 ft.) and the sectional record (43 ft., 10.25 inch.) in the shotput. She plans to study biochemistry with dreams of becoming a forensic pathologist.
