INDIANAPOLIS - Wayne High School soccer player Refik Dogruyol has once again been selected to represent student-athletes in Northeast Indiana on the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee.
Refik, who is completing his junior year, is one of 18 Indiana school students on the panel that represents athletes statewide at various IHSAA meetings, ceremonies and other events throughout the school year. He was named to the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee this year after being nominated his sophomore season by Wayne soccer coach Jake Sharin.
Refik was born in the United States to an American mother and Turkish father, who died when Refik was young. After spending most of his childhood in Turkey, Refik and his family returned to the United States, eventually settling in Fort Wayne. This past season, Refik was one of 14 players on the Generals’ boys soccer team who were either born outside of the United States or are first-generation Americans.
Wayne is one of 25 high schools in the region that partners with Parkview Sports Medicine for athletic training and other medical services for student-athletes.
